Gurgaon: Residents of Sectors 102 and 102A have raised an alarm over a high voltage (HT) pole standing in the middle of the road near Adani Oyster. A utility pole poses a risk of accidents, but GMDA He hasn’t moved it yet, they said.
In February, the GMDA had started an upgradation project to reconstruct a 1.3-km stretch of road connecting to the Dwarka Expressway at a cost of Rs 11.8 crore. The project includes resurfacing the road, constructing surface drains, adding exits, streetlights and road safety measures. However, the unresolved issue of relocating the HT pole worries residents.
Although the project is scheduled for completion in November, residents are calling on GMDA to act immediately, warning that delays in relocating the pole could lead to safety hazards.
“Having a power pole like that in a densely populated area, especially so close to a school, is a disaster waiting to happen. We have seen accidents where an accident occurred because the pole is directly in the path of traffic. As winter approaches, the risks will only increase, GMDA must prioritize this issue to ensure that the new road not only improves connectivity but also ensures the safety of all commuters,” said Vikas Keer, Secretary General, Imperial Gardens RWA.
Residents are also calling for the construction of a service lane along the renovated road to provide a safer and more convenient route and reduce traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, a GMDA official told TOI, “The work of constructing the drain and central road has been completed and reconstruction of the road has started. We are on track to complete the project within the specified time frame. Moreover, the relocation of the HT pole has been taken over by the concerned department.”
