Cmdr. Stacey O’Neal, leader of the Navy Talent Acquisition Group in San Antonio, has been dismissed from her position.

The Navy announced Friday that Rear Adm. James P. Waters, commander of Naval Recruiting Command, had fired O’Neal due to a loss of confidence in her ability to perform her duties as commander. O’Neal was transferred to the Naval Medical Forces Development Command at Joint Base San Antonio.

Captain Tommy L. Edgeworth, deputy commander of the Western Naval Recruiting Region, assumed command on an interim basis.

Under federal privacy law, military officials are not required to disclose reasons for removing or reassigning personnel. Military officials often cite a “loss of confidence” when commanders are removed from their posts, without providing any details that led to the decision.

O’Neal joined the Navy in 1994 as a chief engineer serving aboard the USS Platte, according to her Navy biography. In 2001, she was accepted for an officer’s course. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Florida and was hired through the Enlisted Commissioning Program in December 2003.

Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6), and various unit and campaign awards.
