It’s an attempt at infectious humor.

“Saturday Night Live” tried to push back on some Covid-19 nonsense at the expense of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is believed to be eyeing a political comeback as the next mayor of the Big Apple.

“According to reports, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is already interested in running for mayor. Damn, he’s moving through the nursing home faster than COVID,” comedian Michael Che commented on “Weekend Update.”

As The Post reported Saturday, Cuomo, 66, is telling close confidants that he intends to run for mayor if Hizzoner Eric Adams resigns or is fired following criminal charges related to an alleged pay-for-play scheme. .

Cuomo himself was forced to resign from office after facing sexual harassment allegations in 2021. The former governor denied any serious wrongdoing.

On Tuesday, Adams, 64, was charged in his own explosives case, and the charges could result in a sentence of up to 45 years behind bars. He faces federal charges of bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud over allegations he accepted gifts from a foreign government, Turkey, in exchange for favors.

“SNL” also poked fun at Adams, with comedian Devon Walker portraying Hizzoner.

– Do I look guilty? Adams mock joked before being asked why he was involved with Turkey.

“Have you ever had Turkish delight? It’s a briefcase with $100,000 in it,” he said.

The scandal-hit mayor has denied any wrongdoing in the case, maintaining that he was the victim of a political hit for opposing the White House over the border crisis.

As for Cuomo, in addition to the sexual harassment scandal, he has been mired in controversy over reports that his administration dramatically undercounted the state’s nursing home deaths from Covid-19 under his watch.

He previously ordered nursing homes to admit Covid-19 patients, mixing them with one of the populations most vulnerable to the deadly virus.

The former Empire State governor recently denied to a congressional panel that he remembered a now-infamous state Department of Health report that dramatically undercounted the number of Covid-19 deaths in the state’s nursing homes.

But emails and other documents showed that Cuomo’s aides briefed on changes the governor made to the report.

Rumors about his planned political return have been circulating for a long time. The next New York mayoral election will be in 2025, although there is talk of a potential special election if Adams resigns or is forced from office.

“Governor Cuomo has spent a lifetime of public service, fighting for and delivering for the people of New York, and he will do everything in his power to help,” longtime Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi previously told The Post. “That said, speculation is premature because Governor Cuomo believes Mayor Adams is entitled to due process.”

Meanwhile, shortly after Adams was indicted, Andrew Cuomo’s brother, Chris, host of the show of the same name on NewsNation, cautioned against jumping to conclusions about the mayor’s indictment.

“Why do members of his party behave as he admitted? They need to know that an indictment … only requires probable cause,” the younger Cuomo said late last week before explaining the grand jury trial.

“I’m not saying Adams didn’t do it. “I don’t know,” he said.

The younger Cuomo also briefly touched on how the Democratic Party rushed to turn on his brother in 2021 over allegations of misconduct.
