Eight more people died of dengue fever in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, taking the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 158 this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DHHS), 1,221 more patients were hospitalized with viral fever during this period.

Of the total deaths, five deaths were reported from Dhaka South City Corporation, one from Dhaka North City Corporation and one each from Barishal and Khulna wards.

Of these, 206 dengue patients were admitted to Dhaka North City Corporation Hospital and 228 were hospitalized at Dhaka South City Corporation.

About 830 patients are being treated in various hospitals across the country.

A total of 29,786 dengue cases have been reported since January 1, 2024.

Last year, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.

Last year, DGHS recorded 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries.
