The bridge collapses into the flooded river Helene in East Tennessee

Watch as a bridge in Tennessee collapsed into the Nolichucky River on Saturday as the river swelled with flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Helene.

After Helene made landfall in Big Bend, Florida, on Thursday evening, the Category 4 hurricane flooded parts of the Southeast, causing heavy rain and dangerous floodwaters.

New video shows one of the affected areas was eastern Tennessee, where the Nolichucky River swelled and created a powerful current that carried trees and other debris downstream.

The Kisner Bridge collapses into the Nolichucky River.

The strength of this current was evident when the Kisner Bridge on Highway 107 in the town of Afton collapsed on Nolichucky, which rose high enough to reach the bridge.

“Get out of the way!” said Landon Duckett, who shot the video, to a man standing near the river as the center of the bridge collapsed.

Shortly thereafter, the rest of the bridge collapsed into the river, leaving only the sections of highway built on land.
