WINCHESTER, Ky. (FOX 56) – A building collapsed in Winchester and emergency crews are on the scene.

LATEST NEWS FROM KENTUCKY:

According to the Winchester Fire Department, a building collapsed at the corner of East Lexington Street and Hodgkins Alley.

Authorities are asking people to avoid the area. Traffic on East Lexington Street from South Highland Street to Buckner Street will be reduced to one lane.

“Fortunately, the building had been abandoned and was being demolished, so the roof had already been removed. We can’t say for sure, but we believe strong winds played a role in the collapse. At this stage, we have not yet had the site inspected by engineers,” Whitney Leggett, director of strategic communications and downtown development, told FOX 56.

Crews confirmed that no injuries have been reported at this time.
