(MENAFN – Live Mint) A recently constructed bridge in Bihar collapsed on Friday, cutting off several villages in Bhagalpur district. The incident is the latest in a series of construction mishaps that have plagued the state and occurred when a river overflowed near Mustafapur village.

“The incident occurred around 6 am on Friday when one pillar of a small bridge over the road connecting Pirpauti-Babupur area with Bakharpur Road slightly toppled over. Not the entire structure,” district judge Nawal Kishor Choudhary told PTI.

The incident also sparked sharp criticism from the opposition, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slamming the Nitish Kumar-led administration.

“Another bridge collapsed in Bhagalpur. In the Nitish Kumar regime, the roots of corruption are deep but the foundations of the bridges are weak. Over the last 2-3 months, several bridges built at a cost of several billion dollars have collapsed in the country,” he wrote in X.
